Our Story
My name Is Michael Adair, Owner/Roaster of Cool Beans Roasting Co. Our passion for exceptional coffee ignited eleven years ago in the summer of 2014 when we stumbled upon an advertisement for a $150 Behmor 1600 home roaster. Despite having no initial knowledge about roasting coffee, my wife and I knew this was an opportunity we couldn't pass up, today we are the owners of Cool Beans Roasting Co.
Fast forward to now, we just celebrated our fifteenth wedding anniversary and are proud parents of two wonderful children. As my partner on this journey, Carol plays an indispensable role as my co-owner at Cool Beans. A devoted homemaker and teacher in our private school, she actively contributes to refining each roast and ensuring we achieve perfection. After a few early missteps, I began to grasp the complexities of coffee beans. It's a fascinating world! Understanding concepts like first crack, second crack, and the pitfalls of burnt beans has been essential to our success.
With seventeen years of experience as a precision machinist and tool grinding specialist, I have a keen eye for detail; in my previous profession, tolerances leave no room for error. This commitment to excellence transcends into every roast we create. Mediocre is not an option; we are unwavering in our pursuit of the perfect cup.
At Cool Beans, we take immense pride in crafting coffee that shines on its own—no cream or sugar needed to mask bitterness. Our beans are of the highest quality available, and we guarantee you will receive an honest weight. When you pay for a pound of coffee, you get a full pound. It’s no secret that many stores charge $16-$20 for just 12 ounces; this pricing reflects the typical loss incurred during the roasting process. We choose to absorb that loss because our customers deserve transparency and quality.
Quality over quantity is our mantra, and we are dedicated to ensuring that every cup delivers the same exceptional taste. Our state-of-the-art Ambex coffee roaster enables us to monitor ambient temperatures and the precise behavior of each bean throughout the roasting process, ensuring consistency every time.
After investing in our equipment in late 2024, we took a significant step forward when a good friend encouraged us to launch our business—an opportunity that has taken nearly 3-4 years for us to finally grasp. Even as I continue to work at St. Mary’s Health in Cottonwood, ID, my passion for Cool Beans has grown, prompting us to reduce my hours at the hospital and fully focus on our coffee enterprise.
Thanks to the support of Backroads Coffee Co. in Cottonwood, we have successfully made this dream a reality. They were our first coffee shop partner, and we’re excited to collaborate with them! Nestled in the hills of Kamiah, ID, we are eager to build long-lasting relationships with local coffee shops in the Lewis-Clark Valley. We will supply our stellar coffee to nearby establishments without encroaching on their business—it's all about community!
